When injury occurs after hours and on the weekends then where do you go? The big question that parents ask when their child has an injury or a possible broken bone is “Do I need to go to the Emergency Department and wait 4 to 6 hours for what may be a minor injury or can I go to the local Sports and Injury Clinic at CHMC The Mall?”
Dr Ron Tomlins has been a GP for almost 40 years with half that time in The Hills and we asked him this very question.
“I have seen people with a great variety of injuries including bruises, abrasions, lacerations, burns, bites, sprains and fractures. At Castle Hill Medical Centre, we see many people each week with injuries resulting from sport or accidents around the house, at work or at school.”
“I hear of many instances where parents take their children to the Emergency Department when they could be treated on-site in our Sports and Injury Clinic without the long waiting times or high cost.”
Sport injuries not only occur from high contact sports such as football and soccer but also low impact exercise such as cycling.
Common home related injuries include cuts and fractures from slips and falls.
Work related injuries require you to seek tretment as soon as possible.
