Pre-Employment Medicals

Pre-employment Medical Information

Castle Hill Medical Centre uses Pemelo, an online platform that facilitates workplace and pre-employment medical exams.

To organise a pre-employment medical for yourself or an employee, please call us on (02) 8865 0633 or email us at [email protected] and we can book an appointment.

Once booked, your candidate will receive an SMS or email with:

A link to their online smartphone-based health survey.

Details on the clinic address, appointment date, and time.

Instructions to bring photo ID.

The survey will confirm their details, ask them some questions, obtain a signature on their touch screen, and also give them any final instructions such as bringing glasses if needed. Everything can be filled in before the candidate attends the clinic saving valuable time.

If you have an employee who is required to complete a Pre-employment Medical assessment, please download the flyer and issue this to the candidate prior to their assessment date.

What to expect when you do a Pre-employment medical.

Pre-employment medicals check to see if you are able to do the job safely and within your own capabilities. Sometimes restrictions may be recommended by the doctor when you do your role, this is for you and your employers benefit.

If you received an SMS confirmation from us regarding your appointment, then you will also need to complete the Pemelo questionnaire prior to coming in. There will be a link to the questionnaire in the SMS message.

It’s important to arrive at the appointed time. That’s because you may have appointments with various health providers and by being late, it may throw your other appointment times out.

A courtesy call to advise if you are running late is much appreciated.

You will need to bring valid current photo ID such as a drivers license or passport. Also, if you wear glasses or use hearing aids, bring those as well to your appointment.

Please come to the reception desk upon arrival as your photo ID needs to be sighted. There may be paperwork to fill out, and our receptionist will indicate where you are to go first.

You will be asked to give a urine sample so don’t go to the bathroom right when you arrive.

Depending upon the company’s requirements, your urine sample may be for a urine drug screen or for a urinalysis done as a dipstick test.

A dipstick test can be a quick way to test if you may have an underlying issue such as too much sugar in your urine which could mean you are diabetic and not aware.

Other things nursing will check are:

At this stage, any other tests requested by your employer will be done.

These could be spirometry (lung function test), an audiogram (hearing test) or alcohol breath test to name a few. Sometimes your employer might need to check your vaccination status (depending on what type of work you will be doing) so you may be required to complete a blood test as well.

Once nursing has completed their part of your clinical examination, you will see the nominated doctor and/or the physiotherapist.

The doctor will check your cardio-vascular system, respiratory system, thyroid, gastrointestinal system, joints & limbs, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. The doctor will look at the condition of your skin and may make a notation of any scars present.

It is important to wear loose clothing such as a t-shirt, shorts, skirt or pants that are loose and can be rolled up past the knees. This allows the doctor to view those areas. If you feel more comfortable you could wear a bathing suit under your clothing so your outer clothing can be removed. Gowns are available from the doctor upon your request if you would like one and your clothing restricts the examination.

No internal examination is conducted.

If the doctor finds something that requires further follow up they may make a recommendation for you to see your own GP.

Your completed report will be sent to your employer. We do not provide you with a copy.

A copy of our privacy policy is available upon request. Please email us at [email protected] or call us on (02) 8865 0633.
