Castle Hill Medical Centre, The Mall has a number of doctors who are trained Authorized Health Professionals (AHP’s) who can complete Category 1, 2 or 3 medical assessments.
A high number of the doctors are AHP’s, this means we can often provide same day appointments.
We have fully equipped nursing staff who are able to conduct the required Alcohol Breath test and Audiogram required for these medicals including ECG’s for Category 1 assessments.
Urine Drug screens are able to be done onsite at Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology located at Castle Mall just across the corridor from our medical centre. This enables all the components of our Category 1, 2 and 3 medicals to be done at the one easy location.
The Workplace Health Team can organise the whole process for you, including sending a confirmation email directly to you or your employee with all of the information and paperwork required.
All of our contractor Assessments include a urine drug test and an alcohol breath test. Contractors who return a positive urine breath drug test or an alcohol breath test reading greater than zero, or where there is evidence of specimen tempering or substitution, will be certified temporarily unfit until such time as they have successfully completed the transport agency’s drug & alcohol rehabilitation program for contractors.
Where the positive result was in the workplace their RISI card will be withdrawn. Contractors may be asked to undergo the rehabilitation program as a result of a random or targeted test.
In order to be considered fit to be issued with a RISI card in the future, the contractor is require to undergo a comprehensive rehabilitation program and to provide evidence that they have been drug-free, alcohol -free or both over a substantial period of time and are at a low risk of future illicit drug use or alcohol abuse. This period of time will be a minimum of 12 months.
Rail Industry Worker Rehabilitation Program
Rail workers who have had a positive urine drug screen or a positive alcohol breath test (or both) who are required to participate in Rail Rehabilitation program can see our AHP (Authorised Health Professional) Dr Patrick Mosse.
The contractor will require an initial consultation with Dr Mosse plus either a drug screen, alcohol screen or both depending on which test the contractor tested positive for.
It is recommended the contractor bring in all relevant paperwork, letters from Transport NSW etc to their initial consultation so that an application can be completed and submitted to Transport for NSW requesting permission to commence the program. There is a fee payable for the doctor to complete the application which will need to be paid prior to the application being submitted to Transport NSW for review.
Once Dr Mosse receives approval from Transport NSW for the contractor to begin the program the contractor will be required to come in once a month for a consult plus drug test, alcohol test or both.
They will also need to have a mandatory review/s with an external psychologist in the 12 month period, which is at a separate cost.
The contractor is required to re- do their Category 1. 2 or 3 health assessment at the end of the 12 month period. There is also a fee payable for the final report prepared by the doctor to be submitted to Transport for NSW.
All fees (including pathology and psychological consults) are at the contractors own expense and any fees relating to the rehabilitation program are not claimable through Medicare.
